Microscope Repair
There are so many small parts on a microscope and all of them are very fragile. This is the reason that microscope repair is a very in demand business. Most people would rather have their damaged microscope repaired for a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new microscope. There are even places that will take your microscope in and give it a good cleaning and perform basic maintenance on the microscope.
Most microscope repair places will offer a complete disassemble of the microscope in order to fully clean and repair anything that might be effecting its performance. Within the microscope there are certain parts that require grease in order to properly function. You can have your microscope completely disassembled and de-greased and then have all the parts re-greased and put completely back together to factory specifications.
A common problem with some microscopes is the mechanical stage. This part can easily be damaged by misuse or carelessness while making adjustments. Almost any microscope repair provider will be able to work with a mechanical stage and repair it back to normal, or completely replace the entire piece.
If your microscope is projecting a blurred image of the object that you are magnifying, this may be caused by some type of object that has stuck to the surface of one of the lenses. If this happens to a microscope then it should be taken in to be disassembled and have all the lenses thoroughly inspected and cleaned. In some cases the lenses might need to be replaced if there is any un-repairable damage to them. Replacing the lens on a microscope is one of the more expensive parts to replace. The good thing is that this is a very rare occurrence unless the microscope is being constantly mishandled or misused.
When using self illuminated microscopes, there are a few things that can go wrong and may need some repair. Occasionally the bulb that is use for illumination will be damaged and it may need to be replaced. You should not attempt to replace this on your own. You should always take the microscope to a professional repair person. Sometimes the wiring to the illuminator will become fried due to a short circuit or something of that nature. The wiring can also easily be replaced or repaired by a professional.
There is a service which is called “Student Proofing”. This means that the microscope is set up to where none of the moving parts (such as the focusing knobs, heads, stage clips, and other parts) can be removed without using the proper type of tools. It is a very good idea to have this done if the microscopes are going to be coming into contact with younger students.
Although repairing a microscope is a lot less expensive than purchasing a brand new microscope, it is still in your best interest to properly care for your microscope and avoid needing to repair your microscope altogether. This can be done by properly cleaning and keeping up with routine maintenance of a microscope.
